French electronica-act OIL10 release Best-Of for 10th anniversary

OIL 10 is one of the most famous projects in the mix-genre of Cinematic Ambient and Dancefloor, and - in addition to that - one of the most important bands on the Funkwelten label. Both of the last two albums "Arena" and "Beyond" are essential parts of every well-assorted Electronica CD-collection. For more than a decade this project has been producing individual and wonderful sound collages. 10 years of OIL 10 - reason enough for us to have a retrospective on all these great sounds.

Since 1998, Oil 10 has produced pure electronic tracks in which powerful, elegant, and analogical sounds mix-up. Gilles Rossire shows that research doesn't always mean icy hermetism and achieves a terrific fusion between ambient and techno.

His approach can be explained by the diversity of his influences: LFO, Pan sonic, FSOL, Autechre, Dead Can Dance, essential first albums of Kraftwerk or Tangerine Dream, the 80s electro pop scene (OMD, Freur, Fad Gadget, Ultravox, Depeche Mode...) and recent electronic wave (Fisherspooner, IAMX, Vitalic, The Hacker, Ladytron and so on).

Since he has been a technician in the movie industry for many years, cinema and especially music for films also had a strong influence on him (Forbidden Planet, Edward Artemeyev, John Carpenter, Vangelis, John Williams, Hayao Miyazaki and many more).

"Retrofuture" contains some of the most interesting tracks of all previous releases including the album "In/Out", which was already sold out a long time ago. But Gilles Rossire aka OIL 10 has not only compiled just an ordinary Best-Of. All tracks were remastered and remixed and two new tracks were added - "Retrofuture" comes up like a completely new and independent album. So just be enchanted by pulsating sounds and get into the world of intelligent electronic music - be part of OIL 10's fascinating vision.

Feeding Fingers release Debut-Album on March, 20

n the year 2009 there are more than many Gothic-Bands.
Not only a few of them imitate stereotypical ideals such as The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees or Bauhaus, which are considered to be the originators of Gothic -however, they were active before this genre started to exist at all. Henceonly few people know the true soul of this kind of music and the outcome is often diluted and soulless.
In the middle of this swamp of mediocrity there are some highlights: One of the biggest exceptions is Feeding Fingers.
Founded in Atlanta, the trio is led by mastermind, singer and multi-media-artist Justin Curfman, supported by bassist Todd Caras (ex-Entertainment) and the percussionist Danny Hunt. Doubtlessly Feeding Fingers have more than studied the music of Gothic veterans like X-Mal Deutschland, Cocteau Twins and The Cure, they have completely inhaled and internalized this music.
With their debut album „Wound in Wall“ the trio impressed the listener by showing that not only do they understand and actually live the style and aesthetics of this music, but they also dispose its desolate soul and deep emotions in such an authentic and original form, thus making the sounds of Feeding Fingers to a booster detonation.
Last but not least the suffering and charismatic voice of Justin Curfman, who has a unique way of phrasing songs, gives the band its emotional, characteristic and individual touch.
Even more than in their first album the band releases a minimalistic and punctual performance with their new throw- out „Baby Teeth“. Surely their new sound reminds of the The Cure classic „Faith“ – but which other Gothic band has ever consequently continued where Robert Smith & Co stopped decades ago? The ethereal, traumatic beauty of the melodies in songs like „Plain Faced Afternoons“, the great atmosphere and the flowing and yet compact and homogeneous character of the songs create a complex picture, which can stand all comparisons.

All those who like to feel the sensation of Gothic in its original sense and who are tired of half-cooked clichés, should definitely listen to „Baby Teeth“. And you will notice that most of all Feeding Fingerscreate one thing:

Music with depth and soul!

HEAVY-CURRENT pushing the fire with new album

Setting the world ablaze like never before, the German Synth Rock project centred around the musical mastermind of Jan Weisbrod presents the long awaited album PUSH THE FIRE. With its brilliant mixture of styles like Industrial Punk, Electro, Ambient and Alternative Rock, the album is unique and shows you with songs like Ratrace, One Way World or Heut Nacht that the band has constantly developed further. Brachial electronics, Jan’s various vocals as well as the fireworks of Nook’s passionate drumming and Felix’s powerful guitars – that is how the eleven songs win with aesthetics of sounds as never heard before by HEAVY-CURRENT.
Since 1999 a steadily growing fan base has accompanied HEAVY-CURRENT's transition over four studio albums and through worlds of music that appeal to fans of several genres. Although the origins were mainly electronic, you could already feel by the use of sounds a great longing for experimental, especially rock elements. Since 2004 the teamwork with Nook and Felix made HEAVY-CURRENT a determined and creative band, which first with EDACIOUS and now with PUSH THE FIRE will “burn itself” into your auditory canals.
That HEAVY-CURRENT know how to blow your mind on stage has already got around, as the last tour and engagements with great bands like Apoptygma Bezerk, Agonoize or Covenant have shown. If you did not have the chance or if you really want to see the trio live in action, you must not miss the PUSH THE FIRE-TOUR 2009, where they are guests of Project Pitchfork / Letzte Instanz. Then you will get to know the new album PUSH THE FIRE, which will be released on the 20th March 2009. If you cannot wait so long, have a look at the official Myspace profile, where video blogs and songs from the new album will be presented in regular intervals.

Femme Fatality release debut "One's not enough" on March, 13!

There is definitely nothing new about daring musical fusions and bizarre crossovers. However, as these stylistic ventures are -in most cases -intentionally "trendy" and calculated, both surprise effectand gag fall flat pretty quickly. A laudable exception are the American brothers, Alexander and Monanani Palermo.

Established in 2003, their unconventional mix of sinister electro, hip-hop and their hedonistic attitude towards sex, drugs and nightlife as its clear centre of discussion have already attracted a considerable fan community - not least of all as a result of their interactive live-shows which are also called up in the thousands on youtube.
While they are not without admiration by the critics, albeit being described – somewhat helplessly - as the new Beastie Boys - "One's Not Enough", the second album of these pleasur seeking brothers, has now appeared. Here, the concentrated, cheeky strength and the crude brazen wit come through moreviciously and more clearly than in their firstling; conventional, superficial electro-punk-sentiment of other formations.

"Come On, Come Out“ is a highly atmospheric collection of quotations reminiscent of the best 1980s synth-pop-tradition with pointed, punctuated hip-hop intonations; in contrast the title song "One's Not Enough" strikes clearly harder sounds and riffs.
"Pretty Mess" has developed into a true hit - musical speed, which hits the raw, uncut charm of Femme Fatality on the mark and at the same time impressively documents that the Palermos not only draw the best out of all musical worlds but shout emphatically and straightforwardly into the world without consideration to convention.
While also unsparingly open, realistic and unpretentious in their basic message, just how colourful and multi-layered the duo is reveals itself in the surprising finale "Win, Lose, Die" - an almost cynically-biting statement about love and life and further proof that Femme Fatality's priority is not the trend but the song, entirely without any stylistic blinkers .

"One’s Not Enough“ is a refreshing, impetuous work whose strength and unrivalled radicalism - isolated from any kind of cliché -will not miss its mark.

Arts of Erebus release long-awaited EP!

The 9 track EP „Dawn Of The Dead“ is a new release by the german-french gothic rock band ARTS OF EREBUS.

ARTS OF EREBUS have heard the club DJ‘s calling and re-released a single mix of „Dawn Of The Dead“, the secret clubhit song from their recent full album „Icon In Eyes“. The original album version of this song came with 06:17 min playing time, what was a bit too long for many club floors, now it comes again in a shortened club version with 4:42 min.
„Dawn Of The Dead“ combines the classical gothic rock guitars with modernelectronic elements, without losing the feeling of the melancholic gothic-rock of the early 90s. The sound of ARTS OF EREBUS is defined by the characteristic singing of singer Damien, who rich of emotions interprets the composings of guitar-player Michel Meneguzzi. „Dawn Of The Dead“ was inspiration for the german comic and video artist Tikwa („Die Kleine Gruftschlampe“, „Space Rat“, „Night Angels“ and other comics) to produce a video with ARTS OF EREBUS. The „Dawn Of The Dead“ music video can be found on a special data track on the CD.
Besides the single mix and the album-version the EP offerto other versions of the title song „Dawn Of The Dead“: the „Aftermath“ version comes as a atmospheric down-tempo electronica track, and the „Dead Bodies Dancing Mix“ is a powerful vocoder-electro dancetrack for the floors of the electro scene - a totally new style from ARTS OF EREBUS, who are basically known as a goth rock act. On its more than 48 minutes of playing time, this EP also contains new versions of already known ARTS OF EREBUS tunes like „Heroes In The Dark“ (the hit song from their 2003 debut album), „Brotherhood Of Sleep“ and „Watching Demons“, as well as an orchestral arrangement of „Zeit und Traum“. „Pitch Black“ is a previously unreleased instrumental track.

ARTS OF EREBUS are working on new songs for their third full time studio album.

Entertainment release debut album "Gender"

Entertainment doesn’t make it easy on critics:

When asked about what has influenced them, no band names come to mind; Berlin during the Weimar Republic, cement walls, hallucinations or literary figures such as Franz Kafka. And, in fact, it is this very claustrophobia and the suggested absurdity which distinguished Kafka's work - also, one of the main characteristics of Entertainment's sound design.
Founded in Atlanta, USA, the band has progressed from being merely an inside tip to veritable greatness. Of course, the group finds direction from the successful Gothic bands of the early 1980s, however, any parallels commonly applied to the normal suspects such as Bauhaus or Virgin Prunes do not really do justice to the band. The superficially distressing, awkward and extremely complex songs contained in their debut album "Gender" initially hamper a submersion in Entertainment's multi-layered cosmos as, despite their name, the quartets' sounds far exceed the status of pure entertainment.
The right listener is quicklyrewarded for his effort of entering this world: from the subduing intro "Romance in a Rain" to the threatening cascades of "Patroness" and right through to the cleansing storm in the finale "Flesh!", this work, well coordinated to smallest detail, opens up more and more until one finally can hardly live without "Gender".
The rebellious elements defragment in the head of the acoustic observer and compose a large, dark, disturbing and yet infinitely stirring mosaic.

With only eight tracks, "Gender" follows on in the tradition of essential Gothic masterpieces which have the same length as a good old vinyl LP; however, in contrast, discloses its pure essence without any fillers and, in years to come, will continue to find an echo in one's ears, heart and soul.
That's Entertainment!
